But I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s recap my chaos. First, I got kicked off patrols in fifth grade…wait, that’s too far back. Let’s try that again. First, I graduated from Dreyfoos School of the Arts after spending my formative years studying fine arts and how to pretend to pay attention in geometry class. I loved those years, but I thought I needed to be around normal, non-quirky, non-artsy people for a change so I enrolled at Florida Atlantic University. Boy, was I wrong. Two years later I enrolled at the Art Institute in Fort Lauderdale for Interior Design…but a year after that I realized I’d made yet another mistake. I switched over to Fashion Design with all the confidence in the world, and although this was another financially crushing error in judgement, it provided me the opportunity to live in the best city in the world – Manhattan. And yes, I’m bias. But I’m allowed to be.
Everything changed the day my cousin Candace handed me a copy of Twilight. Say what you may about this book franchise but this story literally changed my life…for the better. Dyslexia, double vision, and a hectic busy schedule made me lose my love for books and reading back in high school. But my cousin’s recommendation lead me to my favorite fiction genre: Young Adult Urban Fantasy. I was insatiable and unrepentant. When my cousin started writing her own book I remember thinking hey, I can do that. Three chapters in to my first novel I felt that CLICK. You know the one where life suddenly makes sense? That one. So really, my cousin gets a lot of the credit for me finding this passion. Ten years, twenty+ books later and I still know this is where I want to be…writing stories for you.
